Actually this review is a cross reference to Dr. B’s other masterpiece, How to Deal with Back Pain and Rheumatiod Joint Pain, where I have extensively written a chronology of successful curing of my dislocated disc in my lower back. I had purchased Many Cries… a few months ago (2008 revised edition) where page 51 describes 2 alignment exercises for the discs in the neck. By coincidence, my neck was more stiff than usual. My chiropractor and his massage therapists could not relax the left side of my neck no matter how many sessions they tried. In December 2008 I was going to them several times a week with minimal success. By chance I came across the techniques on page 51 and after 3 sessions with a 48 hour rest between each self-session in the week after Xmas 2009, I have not had any recurring stiff necks( today is Jan 24, 2010). I say ‘by chance’ because this neck tech is not explained in his Back Pain book and I just happened to start reading Many Cries… I recommend all of his books. I have read most. There is some repetition but I have learned something new in each of his books. I began to read this book with no knowledge of the acids/alkylines. By only the 2nd chapter I have learned so much as to how the whole thing works. Its a easy read smooth and doesn’t bore you with all the medical vernacular. I’m sure this book will open alot of peoples eyes as to why they are fat, overweight, etc and how it happens… So unless I miss my guess and Ms. Cook is off-base,(which I wouldnt say she is), this book is a must to buy to start you journey to a smarter slimmer you. It’s amazing how our body functions and what certain parts do, once you get a handle on that… forget all that diet junk (money machine). If you give the body what it needs and nothing of what is doesn’t, it(the body) does a pretty good job getting rid of the junk in the trunk… Read it…you’ll be all the wiser for it!!

I purchased the book a few years ago and recently purchased the CD set. Personally I think a person is better off reading the book first as it lays the foundation for their approach to eating without guilt, shame or deprivation. The CD is different and they lead you through brief exercises in relaxation and awareness. I feel it’s best listened to when you are relaxed and have time to devote to the exercises and information. I’m glad I have both the book and CD as I can read or listen depending on what I feel like at the moment. This is not a quick fix or a diet. You move at your own pace and comfort level. I spent an entire year plus getting over guilt from eating certain foods and feeling like my day was either good or bad depending on what I ate. I know that sounds like a long time but I didn’t develop my unhealthy relationship with food overnight either. I’m finally getting so I enjoy my meals and don’t feel guilty if I have a cookie or anything else I didn’t think I should eat before. Now that’s freedom. I no longer rely on my bathroom scale to tell me if I’m good or bad. In fact I don’t even use it anymore. For me this is a huge accomplishment. Together with books and CDs from Abraham-Hicks I’m a happier person than I was a few years ago. And it keeps getting better. Buy the Intuitive Eating book and CDs if you aren’t looking for a quick fix, but something much more permanent. I’m done dieting for good! Also, I love shopping at amazon.com. Their customer service is excellent and prices are great.

At first I was a little taken back by this book. From the postings I thought it would include a complete listing of restaurants and their nutrition charts. To my surprise it was “chunked” into different sections – Chinese, Thai, Italian, etc. From here, it went on to explain what’s good to eat in each food category along with words to avoid (fried, alfredo, etc). It was helpful since pasta dishes use very different words to describe their food options than Chinese dishes.
Another tip I was provided in a seminar was to review the menu before you visit the restaurant. This allows extra time to review the nutritional value of the dishes you are interested in. This has helped me save a lot of calories!

This book is great. It is easy to read and gives you great information. It attempts to give you relevant scientific information about fruits and vegetables in a way almost any laymen can understand.
